That Merit Resides in Duty, God’s Election, and in Imputed Righteousness—Moral Way of Casting of education ‘titles,’ Ultra-IQ designation, and station.
Titles (PhD, MSc, BA, CEO, Ultra High IQ) often confuse where merit resides - IQ scores also confuse where merit resides.
Merit resides with those whom the Right Hand of the Father chooses and directs in His Paths.
That is, Favour Resides with the Elect of God; In Righteousness…
And it seems to me that attaching a ‘title’ or numeric ‘IQ’ score to a person’s worth is ascribing human measurement to something that God would rather affix His own weight and measure, in holiness.
Isaiah Chapter 2 [The Future House of God]
“He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” – Isaiah 2:3
The correct and lived-out/embodiment of this verse of scripture to me could set someone down the path of right-knowing and righteousness and worth [as by instruction from the Holy Spirit].
Socially useful productions, even if they do not receive status upgrades—to the point where there is a heuristics with your work which dictates to yourself that you are on the right path and have a great destiny before you.
Titles are many a times conferred for massive expenditure/outlay of money, or for being an effective socialite or even for adequate but not earth-shattering work. There are exceptions and many times the title is a tiding of things to come. Most times a doctoral thesis is not the crowning achievement of someone’s work. And past the age of 28 it is an even race between those with simply a bachelors or a PhD in terms of success and social utility (especially amongst high achievers from both categories). I think it is the lot of many a great genius to go unrecognized in their labors perhaps for the majority of their life, and for many to carry no title at all.
I have learned that to be a teacher of sound doctrine there must be a self-guided autodidacticism combined with a unique heuristic to the method of your work.
As per the aphorism that “nobody can tell you how it’s done” or “there’s no manual on that [thing].” This is true of life’s many runs/quiddities in general.
I love the historical epic movie Braveheart where the Scottish rebel folk hero war-leader William Wallace responds to the nobles who offer him land and title: “You think that the people exist to provide you with land and title, well I think your position exists to provide the people with freedom.” – paraphrase.
The same could be said of Us.
My Bachelor of Arts degree says on it in subtitle: “The Senate on the recommendation of the Facutly of Social Science has conferred upon Gregory Mathew Wilford the degree of Bachelor of Arts Honors Specialization in Political Science with all its rights, privileges and obligations” and despite my grievances with the university system these lines seem appropriate; ending with “obligations” I would like them too to have added ‘all the duties.’
As with Kantian ethics duty is the most high of moral imperatives. I believe whatever title or no title, my gifs of the spirit are meant to minister and serve God’s people. And so now there is a reason to my works.
So summing up, God distributes merit: in His Elect by His perfect Judgement and Wisdom. It resides in righteousness, what the person can contribute to society and in completion and discharge of duty. Titles should be a responsibility attendant on the gifted, not an economic nomer or indulgence which operates in a spurious prestige economy.
For those of Us who once sought to gain high titles or designation of High IQ, know that God will give You His Word and His Measure in the final analysis of things, you see. And that this can be felt with enduring meaning in your life which only the Lord can provide, Amen.
